Texas has one of the largest assisted living markets in the nation, regulated by the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). The state licenses Assisted Living Facilities at four types (Type A, B, C, and D) based on evacuation capability and care level. Texas's STAR+PLUS HCBS Waiver can help cover costs for Medicaid-eligible residents. The state's large size means tremendous diversity in options and costs, from affordable rural communities to upscale facilities in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio.
